• Here is a list of characters in Mary Poppins:

    Unique roles (most likely MS, but not set in stone... We will need to see who auditions!)

    Michael Banks - boy soprano

    Jane Banks - Female soprano

    Toy's chorus

    Neleus - Tenor/Alto -  Statue of a young boy posed with a dolphin in the park. He is separated from his father, Poseidon, and misses him very much.

                                    He is happy to befriend Michael and Jane.  Should be fairly good at movement or dance.

    Male roles

    Bert - Male Baritone - Bert is the narrator of the story and a good friend of Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert has many occupations, including a hurdy-gurdy

                                    player, sidewalk artist and chimney sweep.  He speaks with a Cockney accent and is a song and dance man.

    George Banks - Male Baritone - George is a banker to the very fiber of his being.  He is a pipe and slippers man who doesn't have much to do with his children

                                    His emotional armor however, conceals a sensitive soul.

    Robertson Ay - Male Tenor - The houseboy to the Banks family. Lazy, sleepy and grumbling, he never gets things right. Has a solo in "spoonful"

    The Park Keeper - Male tenor - Uniformed and officious, he makes sure no one breaks park regulations.

    Admiral Boom/Bank Chairman - Male Baritone - Admiral Boom is a retired Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family. He has a booming voice and speaks in

                                                Navy jargon. He has a soft spot for his neighbor Miss Lark.  He doubles as the Bank Chairman...

    Von Hussler - speaking role - A businessman seeking a loan from the bank for shady business deal.  Speaks with German accent.

    John Northbrook - speaking role - an honest businessman seeking a loan for his factory.  Accent from Northern England (Manchester)/

    Female Roles:

    Mary Poppins - Female mezzo-soprano - Jane and Michael's nanny.  She is extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy, and exciting.

    Mrs. Banks - Female Mezzo-Soprano - Mother to Jane and Michael. A former actress, she is loving and distracted homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her

                                                          her husband's desire to only associate with the "best people".

    Katie Nanna - Female - speaking role - Jane and Michael's nanny at the beginning of the show. Overwhelmed and upset, she's had enough of the children.

    Miss Andrew - Soprano - Mr. Banks's overbearing and scary nanny!  She is a bully who knows only one way of doing things - HER WAY!

    Miss Lark - Female speaking role - The haughty next door neighbor of the Banks family who treats her dog as her child.

    Mrs. Brill - Female Alto - The housekeeper and cook for the family. Overworked and harrassed, she's always complaining that the house in understaffed.

                                       She doesn't have a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular.

    Mrs. Corry - Female soprano - Owns a magical gingerbread shop.  A mysterious woman of great age who speaks with a Carribean accent

    The Bird Woman - Female Alto - Covered in patchwork of old shawls, her pockets are stuffed with bags of crumbs for the birds. Solo is "Feed the Birds".
