    Mr. Rybicki

Hello Everyone! I am Richard Rybicki and I am the principal at Southwestern Middle School.  I am a life-long Jamestown area resident as well as a 23-year resident of the Southwestern district.  I am a 1985 graduate of Falconer Central Schools.  I continued my education at Jamestown Community College and then Saint Bonaventure University where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Studies.  I also hold a Master's Degree in Library Media Science at the University at Buffalo's School of Informatics.  I earned by Advanced Certificate in Education at SUNY Fredonia as well.  This cerification allows me to be a school administrator.  I have been employed at Southwesern Middle School since 1997, first as a sixth grade teacher, then as a library media specialist.  I have also worked as Southwestern's Director of Athletics, the high school's assistant principal, and the District's coordinator of technology.  This place has been a second home to me!  During this time my wife and I have managed to graduate 3 children from Southwestern.  We have loved every minute of it!

Southwestern is an exceptional school with an excellent staff.  They are a dedicated, hard-working, fun, student-centered group of people who strive for the success of all their students.  Every faculty team has a daily dedicated meeting time to help students and parents with certain issues or concerns, with instructional planning, and to promote a safe and healthy school community. If you every have a concern, I encourage you to contact you child's team through our Guidance Department to set up a team meeting.

As part of our character education program, we are focusing on five core traits of good character.  These traits are Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Cooperaton and Acceptance.  We believe the stressing of positive values will help insure a safe and healthy academic atmosphere.  This will, in turn, promote a successful transition of our middle level students into the high school with a solid foundation toward college and career readiness.  This year, we will instill the positive behavior of "Acting like a Trojan."  Which will include being kind to one another and utilizing the five core value words.

Our educational community at Southwestern Middle School is devoted to the pursuit of academic excellence, cultural sensitivity and the encouragement of individual strengths, talents and interests in a supportive environment where individual differences and respect of others' rights guide learning behavior.  Our school moto is: "Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow."  This not only promotes academics, but also social and emotional well-being during this critical middle stage of education and developement.

Southwestern is very progressive in the attempt to promote 21st century learning.  We provide positive lerning environments and strongly encourage technology use in the classroom stressing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.  The district's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) initiative enables our student to be college and career ready by graduation.  The future holds many uncertainities and we need to be prepared for it!

I invite you to travel through all the pages we have for you within our district's website.  The faculty, administration, and staff strive to offer an outstanding eductional experience to each and every student.  The best part of your education is how you approach it and what you make of it.  We hope that you will participate in our varied courses and activities.  These experiences are designed to lay the foundation for a productive and fulfilling life.  As a student, you are encouraged to take part in helping our school progress by becoming an active member of the student body.
