Tier I: Universal Prevention 

  1. Positive Behavior Expectations: Clearly define and communicate the expected behaviors across all settings. 
  1. Teaching: Provide explicit instruction on appropriate behaviors and social skills. 
  1. Restorative Circles: Conduct regular restorative circles to build a sense of community and address minor conflicts. 
  1. Common Area Reminders: Signs and reminders from adults about how to act in common spaces within the building. 
  1. Positive Reinforcement: Implement a system of rewards and recognition for students who consistently exhibit positive behaviors. 

Tier II: Targeted Interventions 

  1. Check-In/Check-Out: Assign a mentor or teacher to provide additional support and guidance to students who need it. 
  1. Behavior Contracts: Collaboratively develop contracts outlining behavior goals and consequences with students and parents. 
  1. Restorative Conferences: Hold conferences involving the student, teacher, and possibly a mediator to address more serious behaviors and develop resolutions. 
  1. Behavior Specialist: Behavior Specialist observes student in class and makes recommendations on how to intervene with the student’s behavior. Models intervention for staff.

Tier III: Intensive Interventions 

  1. Functional Behavior Assessment:  Conduct a thorough assessment to identify the underlying causes of challenging behaviors. 
  1. Individualized Behavior Plan: create a personalized behavior plan with specific goals, strategies, and supports. 
  1. Restorative Justice Meetings: Use formal restorative justice practices, involving all stakeholders, to address severe behavioral incidents and promote accountability and healing
