Kenji Walters, the son of Tim and Hiroko Walters, is the Southwestern Class of 2024 Valedictorian. Kenji has been an Honor Roll student throughout his entire high school career and will be pursuing his post-secondary education at Rochester Institute of Technology. While attending RIT, Kenji will major in Aerospace Engineering. Throughout his time at Southwestern, Kenji has been a member of National Honor Society (co-Vice President), Class of 2024 co-President, Varsity Wrestling (Team Captain), Varsity Cross Country (Team Captain), Band (co-President), Students Against Destructive Decisions, and a helper in the Unified Basketball program. As an accomplished student-athlete, Kenji has earned the College Board National and Rural Small Town Recognition Award, been named a WNY Scholar Athlete, and has earned the NYS Seal of Biliteracy. He has been an exemplary leader in the classroom and in the arena of athletic competition. We, at Southwestern, are very proud of Kenji and are looking forward to watching him continue to grow in his next adventure at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Lucy Colburn, the daughter of Dr. Christopher Colburn and Dr. Jill Scott, is the Southwestern Class of 2024 Salutatorian. Lucy has been an Honor Roll student throughout her entire high school career and will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the Fall, majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Material Science. She is currently the co-Captain of Varsity Cross Country team, a member of the Southwestern Concert Band (flute and piccolo), a member of National Honor Society, Book Club participant, and was an integral member of the pit orchestra for Descendants and Seussical musicals. Outside of school, Lucy serves as a lifeguard at the YMCA of Jamestown and is certified in CPR, First-Aid, AED, and teaches beginner swim lessons throughout the year. As an outstanding representative for Southwestern, Lucy was named one of the 2022-2023 College Connections Students of the Year, recognized by College Board as a National Rural and Small-Town award recipient, and awarded the Amy King Memorial Award (cross country award for kindness, character, and willingness to help others). At Southwestern, we have been fortunate to reap the benefits of Lucy's academic, athletic, and community contributions and we are looking forward to seeing her positive impact at Carnegie Mellon University in the future.
