Robert Jackson Lesson Resources

  • The Persuasive Appeal of Robert H. Jackson

Students will identify the persuasive elements in Justice Robert H. Jackson’s writing—from his opinion on the Barnett (dubbed “[O]n...e of the most notable writings in the court’s history”) to the 1945 trials of the Nazi leaders, his writing has been deemed nothing less than "brilliant" and “eloquent” by many. The objective of this lesson is to find out how/why—with a particular focus on excerpts from the opening statements at Nuremberg.
