Dear Southwestern Community,

It is hard to believe we are wrapping up 2025 and are close to approaching the second half of our school year. So many wonderful things have happened with our students, thanks to our devoted staff. Most recently, we had beautiful concerts in each building. Our teachers, support staff, buildings and grounds crew and administrative team helped make these festive events come to fruition. We hope our families enjoyed them and helped create a joyful memory.

After the new year, we will continue to work on our District goal of improving staff recruitment, retention, and support. We will also continue our work on our district-wide math goal, as well as school culture and climate. Exciting things to focus on in the New Year!

‘Tis the season of winter weather, and the stressful decision regarding school closings. Weather forecasts are scrutinized daily (often several times a day if Old Man Winter is acting up). Mr. Spacht, our Transportation Director, begins communications with our county and municipality contacts regarding road conditions before 4 am on questionable days. He then communicates with me about current and projected road and weather conditions to decide if school should remain open or should close. We follow the same procedure to determine after school activities. I have enjoyed creative lobbying from some of our students for a Snow Day – sorry I’ve been a Grinch so far! In all seriousness, the decision to close school or remain open will never be taken lightly by me. I will make the decision based on the best information we have.

I hope you all have a peaceful, joyful, restful Holiday Season. We will look forward to greeting our students back in 2026 with renewed passion and positivity!

Yours in Education,
Molly Moore
