Alumni Invited to ‘Trojan Tailgate Tent’ at Homecoming
Preparations for Homecoming 2019 at Southwestern Central School District are underway with a renewed focus on encouraging alumni to participate in the fun at a Trojan tailgate celebration for graduates on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019. Tours, refreshments and raffles will be featured at this spirited event.
The Student Council of Southwestern High is facilitating this alumni engagement effort and a special alumni tent will be set up near the new gymnasium complex before the varsity football team faces off against Lackawanna at 7 p.m. Before tipoff, grads are invited to tour the facilities, take snapshots at a selfie station and enjoy refreshments from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“We want to strengthen the connection between our graduates and the Southwestern district,” says SWHS Student Council President Matthew Barton (Class of 2020), who also notes that numerous alumni currently work in the district. “We believe that engaging our alumni and involving them with our students, staff and events on campus will foster ongoing pride among our Trojans. After all, we believe that ‘once a Trojan, always a Trojan.’ ”
Southwestern graduates and their families are invited to mingle at the meet-and-greet, wear their Southwestern gear and show off their Trojans memorabilia. Football coach Jehuu Caulcrick has generously donated two tickets to a Buffalo Bills home game with parking pass for the alumni tent raffle. In addition, two season passes for Southwestern Trojan sporting events will be raffled.
“We are trying to re-claim homecoming for our alumni,” says Barton. “We are so excited to welcome graduates to see how our campus has evolved over the years and we hope they share some of their fondest memories from their school days.”
Be sure to look for the “Welcome Alumni” and “Southwestern Homecoming” banners at the inaugural tailgate event for district graduates Friday, Oct. 4, 2019.
